This additional work quickly amortizes the vehicle's original purchase price and upkeep -- and places emergency medical service within the reach of every manufacturing plant, plantation, government agency, and municipality that has a medical problem in a roadless area.

There are two models of this ambulance, the Willys Utility Ambulance, and the Willys Custom Utility Ambulance. Both are built on the 4 x 4 Sedan Delivery chassis. 1. "Go Anywhere Ability
The ability to go anywhere is the distinguishing feature of the Willys Utility Ambulance when compared with -any conventional 2-wheel drive model. Only 4-wheel drive ambulances can effectively operate in muddy, inundated, roadless, under-developed, or disaster stricken areas. The Willys Utility Ambulance can go straight to the scene of the emergency because it has the power to do so.
2. Power
With 4-wheel drive the powerful Hurricane and Super Hurricane engines transmit power to all four wheels in six forward gear speeds. - (The vehicles go anywhere in 2-wheel drive on the highways. )
As with the other Willys 4-wheel drive vehicles, the winch is available as optional equipment. With it the vehicle can pull itself or other vehicles out of conditions that mire down even 4-wheel drive units.

The Utility Ambulance is specifically designed for off-the -road operation. The reinforced frame, airplane-type shock absorbers, straight-line 20-gauge metal body construction, waterproof plastic seat upholstery, and rust proof interior are made to stand the stresses and strains of off-the-road use.

Lastly, the ambulance is maneuverable. The short wheelbase (1 04-1 12 inches), narrow turning radius , and small outside dimensions (6 feet wide - 6 feet high) enable this vehicle to go over, under, between, and around obstacles that would stop larger, bulkier, clumsier, 2 -wheel drive ambulances.

By arranging -two stretcher racks on the passenger side of the Utility Ambulance compartment, Willys has doubled the capacity of ordinary, more expensive 2-wheel drive ambulances. There is still room for a folding side seat opposite the stretchers for an attendant. His front seat is folded forward when the stretcher is placed in position on the rack Few 2-wheel drive ambulances can handle two patients -- and none can do so with such a compact vehicle. The Utility Ambulance sells at about one-half the price of a conventional one-litter, 2-wheel drive unit. It has a low market price because it is a small, compact vehicle with a straight line design. It is sturdier and more maneuverable than the typical chrome -plated, plush, nonfunctional, 2-wheel drive, one -litter ambulance. The Willys Utility Ambulance has alll the essential and none of the frills that add so heavily to the purchase price of any other type of ambulance.
Low maintenance cost is another feature of the Willys Utility Ambulance. It is built to stand up under the rough punishment that a 4-wheel drive vehicle must take in the field.
All-around usefulness is a distinctive feature of the Willys Utility Ambulance. The attendant's seat folds up to afford over 100 cubic feet of open cargo space in the interior of the ambulance. This interior is rust resistant. The plastic seats are impervious to water so that the whole interior can be disinfected or hosed out in a few minutes. It is easily kept clean and sanitary. The large rear doors permit a load of almost the same dimensions as the ambulance interior to be placed in the vehicle. The skid rails on the floor of the ambulance also facilitate easy loading.
