JEEP-A-TRENCH

Trench digging has long been done by either pick and shovel methods or with giant specialized machines that even seem large to construction men. The Jeep-a-Trench enters this field on middle ground, a compromise between both extremes.

The dealer who knows where the Jeep-a-Trench can do the job - and when it cannot - has made the most important step towards closing the sale.

Three factors define this trenching market for the Jeep.

SIZE - The Jeep-a-Trench can handle trenches up to six feet deep and from 6" to 14" wide.

MOBILITY - This vehicle digs trenches faster than a squad of men and because the trenching apparatus is mounted in the sturdy four-wheel-drive Universal 'Jeep', it can go anywhere and has virtually eliminated set up and knock down time.

ECONOMY - This is the machine to dig medium size trenches at a fraction of the cost of the large specialized diggers, or a pick and shovel gang.

The only machines that are in any way comparable to the Jeep-a-Trench are the tractor-mounted trenching diggers. They, however, lack the mobility of the Jeep-a-Trench which can out-maneuver any tractor on rough ground, and still maintain road speeds of 40 - 50 m.p.h.

MARKET - Some of the principal users of the Jeep-a-Trench are:

Contractors - for digging foundations, sidewalk curbing, laying cable, electric conduit, pipes for oil, gas, laying sewage drains, plastic pipe, highway drainage ditches.

Maintenance workers - for city, small contractors, housing development work - on pipe lines, sewage, drainage pipe, gas mains, underground electric cables, etc..

Farmers - for tile drainage work.

Rai1roads - for laying underground switch cable beside and between railroad ties without disturbing tracks.

Often, a good customer source is a contractor who has just obtained a large contract that calls for some trenching work. The Jeep-a-Trench will more than pay for itself on one good job through labor cost savings.

MODE LS - although the basic principles are the same, different models of the Jeep-a-Trench are available because of the various ways the unit may a) be propelled and b) raise and lower its boom, They are:

Model Description

W

ratchet propelled - manual boom lift

EW

ratchet propelled - electric boom lift

WC

ratchet and/or cable propelled - manual boom lift

EWC

ratchet and/or cable propelled - electric boom lift

WH

hydraulically propelled - manual boom lift

EWH

hydraulically propelled - electric boom lift

GW

hydraulically propelled - hydraulically driven

SPECIFICATIONS

Depth control - there are three sizes of booms capable of digging a 3 ' , 5' , or 6' trench respectively. Depths up to these maximums can be controlled by adjusting the boom.

Trench sizes - alloy steel cutting blade sets may be supplied in 6", 8", 10" and 14" widths.

Digging speeds - the speed ultimately depends upon the amount of dirt being removed and the condition of the soil. Shallow digging speeds up to 800 feet per hour are not uncommon for hydraulically propelled models.

Engine speeds - the recommended engine speed is 1800 r.p.m. with the transmission in four-wheel-drive and low gear although the machine can be run in any gear, depending upon the amount of torque required to keep trenching blade cutting. The governor setting controls the engine speed.

Construction - the frame work of the Jeep-a-Trench is all steel, electrically welded, and rigidly reinforced. Easily replaced automotive type sealed bearings, are used with self-aligning heavy duty pillow blocks.  Spicer needle bearing wheel to control the direction of the trench, which may even be set to cut a gentle curve if so desired. This is one of the few trenching machines on pneumatic tires, which makes it ideal for suburban work as it will not ''chew up" lawns. Overload springs are furnished to give the Universal 'Jeep' normal riding position.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED ON THE UNIVERSAL 'JEEP': GW Models; Front Power Take-Off, Governor, Heavy Duty Rear Springs, Bumper Weight, 7.00 x 15 Tires. W, EW, WC, EWC, WH, EWH Models; Same as above Plus: Rear Power Take -Off, Pulley Drive, and Draw Bar.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT:

Crumbing and grading attachments - supplied for farm tillage work where the bottom pf the trench must be kept smooth and level no matter what the variations in surface terrain.

Front Mounted Blade - when this optional piece of equipment is used, the Jeep-a-Trench can do its own backfilling. This means the complete digging job from start to finish can be handled with one man and one machine.

Pentabits - special cutters are available for heavy, rocky soils.

SAFETY FEATURES - the Jeep-a-Trench is equipped with 1/2" wooden dowl sheer pins to prevent damage to the cutting blades, should they strike some object they cannot dislodge. While the Jeep-a-Trench will remove boulders up to the size that can fit between the flanges on the augers, it must be remembered that this machine is not designed to cut through rock shelf.

THE JEEP-A-TRENCH IS ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF JEEP VERSATILITY.

While high sales volume of this machine is not expected you will be surprised at the inquiries that result from the delivery of one of these units in your territory.
