WINCHES

One of the most useful and frequently purchased pieces of auxiliary equipment available for installation on Willys Utility vehicles is the Winch. The addition of this unit to a Universal 'Jeep', 'Jeep' Station Wagon, 'Jeep' Truck or the other Willys models enables it to extricate itself or other vehicles from any conceivable driving situation under its own power . . . Gullies, ditches, streams, rocks, mud, snow, icy slopes and extremely steep grades can all be navigated with assurance and safety. Furthermore, the Winch is ideal for towing operations, moving heavy machinery, use as a hoist to load and unload trucks, freight cars, or for positioning equipment. In fact, a Winch is recommended anywhere a steady, smooth and strong pull on a cable will make work easier, safer and more economical.

FEATURES

  • Steel fabricated drum.

  • Easy to install.

  • All moving parts have low friction ball bearings, tapered roller bearings or bronze bushings.

  • All shafting is stress-relieved, ground polished.

  • Worm gear mounted on drop forged steel spider, double keyed to drum shaft.

  • Alloy bronze, machine-case worm gear and precision worm.

  • Easy to operate, drop-forged drum clutch, double keyed to drum shaft.

  • Drum clutch is slotted to easily engage steel pins on drum.

OPERATIONAL HINTS

All Koenig winches use worm and gear drive mechanism. This mechanism is the same on all units except the R100J. All Koenig winches have a drum clutch which engages or disengages the winch shaft from the drum. When not in operation this clutch should be disengaged. Special care should also be taken to always toll the winch cable up under tension after a job is completed to avoid "kinking" cable. Taking care to attach the cable properly in the first place to the object to be pulled and lining up the vehicle so that the winching operation is directly ahead of the winch also prevents "kinking" the cable. Kinks in the cable seriously shorten the cable's life and are a safety hazard as the cable is weakest at these points and is most apt to break under tension. Again, extra traction can be obtained by blocking the wheels of the 'Jeep', or by anchoring one end to a tree or branch. This practice is useful where the winching load approaches the maximum capacity of the cable.

The price of the Koenig Winches does not include cable for Bed Mounted Winches since they can be supplied with both 3/16" and 3/8' cable. However, 3/8" cable is only recommended for heavy duty Wrecker use.

Our records show that one out of every ten Willys utility vehicle owners buys a winch for his unit . Have you been reaching that level in your territory?

SELLING A WINCH WITH A WILLYS UTILITY VEHICLE GIVES YOUR CUSTOMER A GILT EDGED GUARANTEE THAT HE CAN TRAVEL ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME IN ANY WEATHER.
