JEEP AIR COMPRESSORS

The compactness and mobility of the Jeep Air Compressors have made them extremely popular with contractors, government construction and maintenance departments and armed services, as well as a host of other groups such as farmers, garagemen, painters, and logging operators.

A Jeep mounted air compressor makes a dependable supply of compressed air available for a multitude of jobs, no matter where the work site happens to be. Existing power outlets are no longer a limited factor.

Since the compressor is both powered and transported by the same vehicle - the sturdy four-wheel drive Jeep - one man can drive and operate the unit.  This gives the Jeep air compressor greater operating scope than most trailer-mounted compressors or those mounted in the back of two-wheel drive trucks.

USES OF MOBILE AIR COMPRESSORS - Compressed air can be harnessed in a number of different ways. Some of the main uses we are listing below:

A) Hammers - Jack hammers, pavement breaker, rock drilling, body fender hammers.

B) Farming - Tree pruning, spraying operations.

C) Painting - Dusting gun, paint spray gun, atomizers.

D) Tire tools - Rim stripper, tire changer, air pump.

E) Garage operations - Air filter cleaner, body polisher, body sander, carbon remover, car rocker, radiator tester, spark plug tester, brake tester, grease gun, and tire filler.

F) Logging - Saws, bark strippers.

The Schramm 60 and 105 Air Compressors, both factory approved, can be installed in Toledo or in the field. Discussion of these two units will supply the type of information necessary for other adaptations.

The Schramm 60 CFM Compressor is a four-cylinder-V-type, single stage, air cooled compressor with 3-1/4" bore and 3-1/4" stroke. The light weight and compactness of this compressor makes it extremely well adapted to mounting in the Jeep. The compressor is bolted to a heavy adjustable base, which, in turn, is rigidly attached to the Jeep frame by means of suitable reinforcing cross members and brackets. No part of the load is imposed upon the body. This well-balanced construction results in smooth, vibrationless operation.

SCHRAMM 60 CFM COMPRESSOR

The simplicity of construction in the compressor itself results from use of the single stage principle of design which eliminates the inter-cooler and fan. The capacity control unit which is standard equipment consists of three units: the engine slow-down assembly, the pilot valve, the unloader assembly. They function in the following manner. When the pressure in the receiving tank reaches a pre-determined figure, the pilot valve allows air to flow to the unloader valve which causes the intake valves of the compressor to remain open. Immediately after this happens, the pilot valve sends air to the engine slow-down assembly.  The speed of the engine will be slowed down to idle until the pressure level in the receiving tanks drops about 5 lbs. At that instant the engine is speeded up due to the action of the engine slow-down assembly, and the next instant the intake valves of the compressor are allowed to close and the compressor goes back to work. These operations are carefully synchronized so as to maintain a constant pressure in the receiving tank.

The intake valves of the compressor are mechanically operated and the discharge valves located in the cylinder heads are of the disc type and spring mounted.

The compressor's lubrication system is splash type, and is provided with an oil pump, oil pressure gauge, oil filter and bayonet for checking oil level in sump.

The drive is completely enclosed, both for the protection of the operator and to keep it clean. A matched set of four "V" belts drive the specially designed power take-off sheave. Belt tension is adjusted by positive takeup.

The compressor is operated in third gear and neutral in the transfer case. It is ready to operate just as quickly as the right tool can be attached to the hose reel.

THE SCHRAMM 105 CFM COMPRESSOR operates on roughly the same principle as the 60 CFM. The major differences are:

1) 75% more capacity than the 60 CFM. This allows the 105 CFM to tackle bigger, longer operating cycle jobs.

2) The 105 CFM compressor is a vertical liquid cooled unit with separate head and oil pan.

3) The 105 CFM is driven by a matched set of 6 "V" belts.

4) The 105 CFM can be supplied with twin hose reels if needed. (Optional rear seat cannot be installed with this arrangement).

5) The 105 CFM can furnish enough air to operate two 80 pound air hammers.

TOOLS: There are many tools available to compressor operators. These tools are usually obtainable locally but are available through the Willys-Overland Export Corporation by special request. It is important for the salesman to know what tools can be had with the Jeep Compressor and more important, how many of these tools the specific unit mounted on the Jeep, the Compressor can be expected . to operate. A great deal depends on the physical weight of the tools and the amount of air required to energize them.  To give the distributor some idea of the tools that can be used with the Schramm Compressor, a table of specifications is included in this chapter. However, a distributor would certainly profit by discussing the whole question of compressed air with a local experienced operator of such equipment. The Willys-Overland Export Corporation would be very happy to answer any specific .questions that come up and to help the members of its own distributor family with special problems that might be solved by the use of compressed air.

INDUSTRIAL PROGRESS HAS CREATED A DEMAND FOR MECHANIZED TOOLS. THE WILLYS UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A COMPRESSOR READIES YOUR CUSTOMER FOR HIGH SPEED, HEAVY DUTY WORK IN ANY TERRAIN, REGARDLESS OF POWER SUPPLY CONDITIONS. DO ALL OF YOUR COMPRESSED AIR USERS KNOW THIS?
